		<description>&#60;img src="http://payload19.cargocollective.com/1/0/7006/2697684/titleinfo_weareblithe_1140.gif" width="1140" height="16" width_o="1140" height_o="16" src_o="http://payload19.cargocollective.com/1/0/7006/2697684/titleinfo_weareblithe_o.gif" data-mid="13675358"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;
For this project, I looked into how one could brand a neighbourhood or area as part of a Visual Branding brief. The project's goal was to come up with a way of representing an area without the sole use of a traditional Corporate Identity approach. I decided to base my work on the area of Bethnal Green, which used to be called Blithenhale ("happy corner"). There is a sort of humbleness that separates this area from many others in East London. Bethnal Green is currently branded as part of Tower Hamlets, but does not have its own corporate or visual identity.My outcome for this project is a concept that takes advantage of the topic trending culture on the social networking site Twitter. A series of posters would be put around Bethnal Green, each featuring a statement about what the area is not, ending in "but I am blithe". The posters invite the inhabitants of Bethnal Green to tweet statements about their area through a website running on the official Twitter API. This makes it possible to connect to Twitter and post tweets directly through the site. By involving the inhabitants of Bethnal Green, the visual identity of the area would effectively be sparked and developed by them. Rather than having people state only what they love about their area, stating something possibly negative about it may be even more powerful, as we put up with it but are still "blithe" to live here. This goes along with the idea of branding Bethnal Green as a humble, but happy place. In order to promote these kinds of statements, the hashtag included in every tweet is #butiamblithe, so that people may use the hashtag as part of their statement.

This video is a compilation of time-lapses I have shot for 1day6cities, a global collaboration project that took place on 11.11.2011. Collaborators from London, Dubai, Shanghai, Auckland, San Francisco and Sao Paulo created a unique twenty-four hoursnapshot of this day across six very different cities around the globe. My intention in participating in the creation of this project was to explore time-lapses as a medium that can be considered as both photography of naturally occuring events, and animation used inan unnaturally fast-moving manner, synonymous with urban lifestyle. The time-lapse videos and stills from them will be shown together in a series of six exhibitions in 2012, one in each of the cities.

In the summer of 2010, I spent a month travelling around Indonesia and Singapore. One thing about Singapore that I found very overwhelming was how incredibly modern and clean it was. I think it is amazing when a city can blow your mind just by the way it looks and its building structures. The immense diversity in this city makes this stand out even more: everywhere you go looks different, but everything is still kept very structured and clean.

The images shown were taken at the Marina Bay, a bay in the southern part of Singapore east of the Downtown Core.

In early 2011, Daniel Pattison asked me to work creating a series of Live Session videos. A series of four tracks were recorded at Somethinelse by Jamie Williams and myself.
The four tracks were recorded using a multiple-camera setup of five Canon 5D Mark II cameras, recording at 1080P/25fps. This included three stationary cameras, in combination with two operated cameras on a dolly and a shoulder mount. After Nick Read mastered the tracks, the footage from the five cameras was synchronised with the audio, edited, and colour graded in Final Cut Pro 7."Daniel Pattison is a musician originally from Reading, now based in London. Daniel makes modern folk music, taking influence from traditional folk, American indie, modern classical and the singer songwriters he grew up with such Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joni Micthell and Roy Harper. Daniel plays live with a trio (oboe, cello, backing vocals).

Hidden Treasures is series of three posters created as part of a brief showcasing some of the works contained at the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection. The aim of the project was to create posters for three items, using photographs taken by other students with their own cameras. This created the limitation of not having control over the composition, depth of field, focus, sharpness and quality of the images to be used for the outcome. In order to work around this limitation and to showcase a variety of elements of the items, I decided to create a mixture of a digital and a traditional collage: The process entailed a cycle of printing, collaging, and re-photographing of print-outs, which added structure to the images and provided the three outcomes with a common format. The burning of parts of the physical collage was used both as a compositing tool, as well as to visually emphasise the idea of the items being old treasures.

Mount Merapi vulcano near Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The photographs were taken a few weeks before its most recent eruption in October 2010."Merapi is the youngest in a group of volcanoes in southern Java. It is situated at a subduction zone, where the Indo-Australian Plate is subducting under the Eurasian Plate." (Source)Merapi is a very mythical place that is very important to the Javanese, especially those living around the crater. Even though this area is condemned to be a hard place to live at, locals stay and keep a very simple life.
